As the founder and owner of Pointfore Canada, the company was built on a dream to promote the sport of badminton throughout Canada by providing excellent products and services at competitive prices. Andrew Ma has been involved with badminton for many years in many different aspects. Having started playing club badminton in university, he became director of the volunteer-run University of Waterloo Badminton Club (UWBC) for two years. In this role as the tournament director, he ran over a dozen tournaments for the club members and also introduced the club to the tri-annual UWBC Pointfore Tournament. In 2006, he ran the first K-W Pointfore Badminton Invitational, where the Pointfore tournament committee raised over $1200 for the non-profit K-W Badminton Club. This fun and recreational event brought participants from across Ontario and even as far as San Diego! |
In 2001, he began coaching at the Erindale Junior Badminton Club in Mississauga and later became the head coach in 2002 after becoming a certified coach for badminton. He then went on to coach at the Kitchener-Waterloo Badminton Club as the Director of the Junior Program in 2004. Andrew was also the head coach of the Waterloo Warriors badminton varsity squad between 2003-2005 where he helped lead the team to one gold medal and two silver medals. The gold medal was the first for the team in over 25 years.
Since then, Andrew has started to play competitively in Ontario, and is currently ranked as a B player in Ontario. He continues to coach, run tournaments and promotes badminton across Canada. Some of his goals when visiting clubs are to educate players about badminton and bring services such as stringing and racquet weighing and coaching to a familiar surrounding for players. His love for badminton is demonstrated in his actions and dedication to sport.
